Centuries ago there was some kind of contact: thelepatic, astral, perhaps even physical. Strange beings emerging from the Waters and teaching men how to do seemingly impossible things. The birth of civilization. Superhuman (or maybe simply non-human) being roaming the Earth and showing what they could do: the memories of their visit survives in legends and folklore, their legacy was the Blood of the King. The King of the God. The King of Kings.
In Rome-dominated Palestine the Blood surfaced for a while, a Man performed seemingly impossible things and then disappeared, leaving behind himself a trail of tales: killed by the Romans, escaped to Japan, or perhaps, Kashmir, maybe even France. In Arcadia. Et In Arcadia Ego.
Perhaps His Blood still survives, and perhaps even those in whose veins this Blood runs don’t know. But the Blood of the King survives. La Sangre Real.

Eighteen months after Burnt Memories, Thelema release their fifth album, LA SANGRE REAL, a concept based on the legends surrounding the figure of the historical Jesus. Far from being a rehashing of the ideas set forth in recent books, LA SANGRE REAL gives voice to teachings scattered in numberless esoteric traditions: the ultraterrestrial origin of the Blood of Jesus, the dealings, occurred centuries ago, between man and beings from other planes of existence, the survival of Jesus himself and of his offspring.
From a purely musical point of view, LA SANGRE REAL, takes the expressive force of Burnt Memories on step further: Thelema have enrolled old time friends such as Gianluca Artioli, whose guitar lines bring strenght and power to the melodies and to the hypnotic beats of Alessandro Facciolo on drums while the trumpet and viola of Pino Dieni add meaningful dramatic touches to the more intimist tracks.

Una conoscenza sacra e segreta attraversa tutte le genuine tradizioni esoteriche. Strani esseri usciti dalle Acque che insegnavano agli uomini come realizzare cose apparentemente impossibili. La nascita della civiltà. Esseri sovrumani (o forse semplicemente non umani) che attraversavano la Terra e mostravano quello che erano in grado di fare: il ricordo della loro visita sopravvive nelle leggende e nel folklore, il loro lascito fu il Sangue del Re. Il Re degli Dei. Il Re dei Re.
Nella Palestina dominata da Roma il Sangue si riaffacciò alla superficie per un poco, un Uomo che compì atti apparentemente impossibili e poi scomparve, lasciando dietro di sé una scia di racconti: ucciso dai Romani, fuggito in Giappone, in Kashmir, forse addirittura in Francia. In Arcadia. Et In Arcadia Ego.
Forse il Suo Sangue sopravvive ancora, e forse anche coloro nelle cui vene esso scorre ne sono ignari. Ma il Sangue del Re sopravvive. La Sangre Real.
Detto questo, la nostra idea di grandezza è Joshua Ben Yussuf che gioca e si diverte con le suore sexy di Dave Vanian, mentre ascolta Killing Joke e Turbonegro.

Diciotto mesi dopo Burnt Memories i Thelema pubblicano il loro quinto album, LA SANGRE REAL, un concept basato sulle leggende che circondano la figura del Gesù storico. Lungi dall’essere una ripresentazione delle idee esposte in libri recenti, LA SANGRE REAL dà voce a insegnamenti sparsi in innumerevoli tradizioni esoteriche: l’origine ultraterrestre del Sangue di Gesù, i contatti, avvenuti secoli fa, tra l’uomo ed esseri provenienti da altri piani di esistenza, la sopravvivenza dello stesso Gesù e della sua progenie.
Da un punto di vista puramente musicale LA SANGRE REAL porta la forza espressiva di Burnt Memories a un livello ulteriore: i Thelema si sono assicurati l’aiuto di vecchi amici come Gianluca Artioli, le cui parti di chitarra portano forza e potere alle melodie e ai ritmi ipnotici di Alessandro Facciolo alla batteria, mentre la tromba e la viola di Pino Dieni aggiungono significativi tocchi drammatici ai brani più intimistici.
